Test plan — Crystal Lake on-site routing

Use download #4, FarmersKornerTest-crystallake.img. It adds a routable trail right where you'll be standing, so you start on the network (no reaching-an-island problem). The trail is a dogleg: NE 500 m, then SE 200 m, at max speed/road-class to out-rank basemap trails.

⚠️ Test inside a full activity (Hike), NOT the "Map" activity. The Map view doesn't expose Routing settings or full navigation — start a Hike (or similar) activity to get Navigate + the routing options below.

🔑 STEP 0 — Turn OFF Popularity Routing on the watch. It needs Garmin's crowd-sourced data, which a custom map has none of — the top-cited cause of "route calculation error" on fēnix/Enduro. This may be the whole fix. It's set per activity:

  1. Hold MENUSettings.
  2. Activities & Apps → select the activity you'll navigate in (e.g. Hike).
  3. Open that activity's settings (e.g. Hike Settings) → NavigationRouting.
  4. Set Popularity Routing = Off.
  5. While in Routing: set Calculation Method → Minimize Distance (or Direct / off-road), and if you see Lock On Road, turn it Off.

Labels vary slightly by firmware — the key toggle is Popularity Routing under the activity's Navigation → Routing. Re-check it's off for the active profile before each attempt.

The route

Start (you stand here)39.43564, −106.09087
Bend (after NE 500 m)39.43882, −106.08676
End (navigate here)39.43755, −106.08511

Test

If it still errors

Record the verdict

turn-by-turn on our trail / routes but ignores our trail / still errors (+ whether Popularity Routing off changed anything). That's the #136 device answer.
